Horse riding
Leisure, passion, magic... Discover the changing landscapes of Bearn riding on a Pottock, a small Basque horse which closely represents drawings found in the caves of Isturitz. Indeed, horse riding has been enjoyed within this region throughout centuries. Henri IV used to visit his mistresses upon horse back with the views of the snow caped Pyrenees trying some Jurancon grapes as he passed lush vineyards.
135 km of tracks are available to you, most of which were used by the pilgrims on their journey to Santiago de Compostela.
In 1991, the Pau Hippodrome gained international recognition. It is now known as one of the top race courses alongside Chantilly and Maison Alford. The quality of the tracks, its modern installation and its beautiful steeple circuit make it a must see for those horse racing lovers.
Those who are more timid to try horse riding might enjoy a gentle ride led through the picturesque forests upon a donkey.
